Islamic talismans

What is a talisman?

A talisman is an object imbued with protective, offensive, or healing intention. Typically they are portable or wearable charms. Some examples include hamsa charms, evil eye pendants, and amulets made of precious stones.

How does a talisman work?

Talismans work on a number of levels to achieve certain magical effects. Whether you connect with magic as a psychological and somatic phenomenon, a supernatural one, or both, you can use them to

  • Ground yourself visually and kinesthetically;

  • Evoke desired states of consciousness through association;

  • Increase embodiment and understanding of symbolic & mythic realities;

  • Invoke the intercession of protective, attractive or offensive forces.
